What is a Success Coach?

First-Year Success Coaches help incoming students as they are transitioning from high school to college. They're responsible for meeting with students in a variety of settings to help them navigate the campus, make healthy choices, and make lasting friendships. Our coaches:

  • Serve as guides to help students pursue holistic academic and personal wellness
  • Promote social wellbeing, student involvement, and skills development
  • Enrich the connections of Oswego students to each other, the college, and the campus 
  • Meet with small groups of assigned students in a small seminar-style course
  • Accompany students to campus events, speakers, and performances

Non-Negotiables (Qualifications)
  • Rising sophomore standing or above (30+ earned credit hours by fall 2022)
  • 2.0 GPA or higher
  • At least one semester completed at SUNY Oswego (any major)
  • Desire to connect with other students, staff, and faculty
  • Eligibility to enroll in a 1-credit spring training course (Q4)*
  • Eligibility to enroll in a 3-credit practicum class or internship in fall 2022 *
  • Accumulate 120 fall hours: training, classwork, and coaching (8-9 hours/week)
