I had complete autonomy on the project I was working on and was able to develop and deploy an internal web app in my 10 week internship. Interns also have the ability to attend networking events with Directors/Managing Directors throughout the summer. And NYC is a lot of fun!
What I wish was different
There were no scheduled intern events outside of work -- having these would've made it much easier to get to know other interns.
Advice
Ask a lot of questions, especially if you're new to finance.

What I liked
People were nice, intern class was close, junior employees were great to talk to and very approachable, healthy culture overall, very supportive and understanding of interns with varying levels of experience
What I wish was different
Difficult team, long hours, poor communication leads to inefficiencies though this depends on the employee you’re working for
Advice
Remember that perception drives reality and the image you create and polish of your work and manner, at least in high finance, is as important as the quality of the work.

What I liked
Lots of different opportunities and excellent work environment. People were extremely friendly and willing to help.

Internal Audit Intern
June - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
I really liked all of the other interns I got to meet through our initial week of training and then working together with some throughout the summer, and seeing all of the interns at various events throughout the summer. I enjoyed how much I got to know the members on my team and how welcome they made me feel.
What I wish was different
There isn't anything that I wish had gone differently about my internship experience.
Advice
Talk to and network with as many people as possible, both in the area in which you're working and outside of it, while you're there. Establishing connections and hearing about different people's experiences will allow you to learn a lot.

Analyst (Investment Banking)
June - August 2018 • New York City, NY
What I liked
Fast paced environment, tremendous learning experience, enhanced my financial modeling skills, and worked with some of the best bankers in the industry.
What I wish was different
Hours were extremely unpredictable. There were times where you had little to nothing going on and others when you were over staffed and had to stay in the office well past midnight.
Advice
Start the networking and prep process earlier than you think. The application timeline moves up every year. Also, you can not apply for this internship with 50% effort. You must treat this like and extra class and give 100% effort to even give yourself a shot at getting the job.

Don't be afraid to speak with the people and ask the questions that will make your job much easier. Obviously do some research beforehand but they are not expecting you to know all the intricacies of the job with no prior experience

Investment Banking Analyst Intern
June - August 2018 • Los Angeles, CA
What I liked
I enjoyed working on projects involving clients in the private equity space, as I was able to learn more about the approach that private equity firms take in their due diligence and how they think about the investing process.
What I wish was different
I wish that I were in a bigger analyst class and that I was able to perform more of the work that a coverage team would normally do (I was in the Financial Sponsors group).
Advice
I would suggest this experience to those very interested in the PE space, as it was an incredible experience for learning more about the private equity industry.

What I liked
The support system and help I received from employees across different divisions and at different levels in Barclays.

Advice
Networking was an important part, but I was able to make connections by making the conversation more about genuinely wanting to learn about someone else's experience, not a cookie-cutter type of conversation.

What I liked
I learned a lot about an industry in which I had no experience.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have actually done meaningful work - but legally this is quite difficult in S&T.
Advice
Don't stress about a return offer - use it as an opportunity to learn as much as possible about the markets and various businesses and the general economics of sovereign states, financial institutions, and corporations as well as how these influence people's everyday lives.

What I liked
I like the challenge I was presented with everyday. Everyday is different, so your job is always going to be challenging and new. Even as an intern, I was given as much responsibility as a full time employee. The work I was doing was the same as a first year full time. This allowed for a great learning experience.
What I wish was different
I thought the internship was a great experience.
Advice
An advice I would share with a future intern is never be afraid to ask question. Being able to present yourself as proactive is important to landing the full time offer.

What I liked
I really enjoyed the structure of the program. If you did the work well, you were likely to receive a return offer.
What I wish was different
I wish I had prepared more for the program before I entered. I didn't fully understand the distinction between the different desks available and wasted time trying to learn when I should have been meeting with people.
Advice
Speak with everyone!
